Planetary Systems beyond the Main Sequence

11 - 14 August 2010, Bamberg, Germany

1st Announcement

(also available as PDF)

Planetary and brown dwarf companions to evolved stars have only recently been discovered. The aim of this conference is to discuss observational results and techniques as well as theoretical predictions for the formation and the fate of the orbiting substellar objects as well as for their impact on the evolution of the host stars. Central to the conference is to explore the impact of new and upcoming space missions like Kepler, GAIA and PLATO for this emerging field.

Science topics will include:

  • Influence of planets/substellar objects on evolved stars
  • The fate of planets: do they survive, grow or shrink?
  • The stability and habitability of planetary systems around evolved stars
  • Debris disks around white dwarfs: their nature and origin
  • Planet formation around evolved stars: second generation planets around neutron stars, white dwarfs and hot subdwarfs
  • Detecting substellar objects around evolved stars (from RGB to WD)
  • Substellar objects in binary stars
A more detailed list of topics can be found here.

Registration

The conference webpage (see below) will be open from mid of March 2010. A second announcement will be issued on this occasion. Registration deadline will be June 1, 2010.

The registration fee will be 120.- Euro if paid until that date; late registration will cost 180.- Euro. In case of positive assessment by the German Research Foundation, limited funds will be available to assist with a part of travel expenses.
